Snooker: Lothian duo Michael Leslie and Ross Muir pocket titles
YOUNG Lothian snooker talents Michael Leslie and Ross Muir both potted their way to victory at Edinburgh's Corn Exchange last night.
Leslie was in superb form as he beat Glasgow's Anthony McGill 4-3 in the final of Event 1 of the Scottish Under-21 series. Leslie won the first frame comfortably and then opened up a 2-0 lead with the help of a 44 break.
Breaks of 44 and 47 allowed McGill to pull one back, but an excellent 73 break allowed Leslie to restore a two-frame cushion. McGill then came roaring back with a tense black ball game in the fifth and a 56 break in the sixth to level the match. However, despite McGill making a 44 break in the last frame, Leslie held his nerve to take the final colours and seal the title.
Ross Muir enjoyed victory over fellow-Musselburgh player Greig Ritchie with a 4-1 victory in the final of Event 4 of the Under-16 series, sponsored by JMConservatories.co.uk. Muir opened up a two-frame lead before Ritchie pulled one back. However, Muir was the more assured player throughout and sealed the last two frames to win the title and extend his lead at the top of the rankings.
