Six Scottish crews have Henley hopes
SIX Scottish crews are among the competitors at Henley Royal Regatta, which starts today on the Thames near London.
Three of them race today. First into action is Edinburgh University in the Temple Cup for student eights. They face a crew from Kent School in Connecticut, USA. Next will be a coxless four from Glasgow Rowing Club, who face a crew from Tyne in the opening round of the Wyfold Cup. Glasgow have been given the accolade of being "selected" in this event; Henley's quirky equivalent of seeding.
Later, Glasgow University race Southampton University in the first round of the Prince Albert Cup for student coxed fours.
The other three Scottish crews who will get into action later in the week are a Clyde and Edinburgh University composite women's eight, who race Yale University in their opener; a men's quad from Clydesdale, up against London-based Tideway Scullers; and Glasgow's coxed four in the Britannia Cup, who will face Thames.
