Glasgow 2014: Souvenir stamps go on sale

A COLLECTION of souvenir stamps to celebrate the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games will go on sale today.

The stamps feature illustrations from sports including swimming, squash, judo, netball and the marathon representing Athletics.

Designed by Howard Brown, the stamps include illustrations by Dutch artist Nanette Hoogslag as well as photography by Andy Hooper.

A spokesman for Royal Mail said:”The collection will be our lasting reminder of this special occasion.”

The process for the production of the stamps saw photographer Hooper submitting pictures for the artist Hoogslag to work on. One major sticking point was the need to disguise the actual athletes involved, as you are not allowed to show any living person on a stamp.

Hooper said he got round this by producing images that were not as sharp as those he usually provides, a process that made him feel like he was ‘going against the grain’.

The stamps are on sale now at royalmail.com/glasgow214 and across 10,000 Post Offices.
