Sharks bite back to reclaim Sevens trophy from Dragons

SALE Sharks regained the Chard Glasgow City Sevens trophy when they finally ended a tremendous day's performance by Stirling County in the final.

The Guinness Premiership side won the Cartha tournament in 2007, but lost their crown to Newport Gwent Dragons last year. A mix of academy players, including England under-18 and under-20 caps, and five first-team players, Sale breezed to the final with wins over Garnock, Ulster and Aberdeen GSFP.

They were held 12-12 at the break in the final, but dominated the second half to run in six tries, winning 43-12 and claiming the 2,500 first prize.

County flew the Saltire high in beating the Dragons on a golden try in the quarter-finals and then pipping Newcastle in the semis. Ben Addison was voted the Player of the Tournament.
