SFA may punish Nacho Novo over Pittodrie gesture
THE Scottish Football Association is considering disciplinary action against Rangers striker Nacho Novo over his behaviour following the Ibrox club's 1-0 defeat by Aberdeen on Saturday.
Novo, who is at the centre of a police investigation over an incident following the Clydesdale Bank Premier League match, could now face an SFA improper conduct charge.
The Spaniard was photographed making a gesture as he walked off the Pittodrie pitch at the weekend. The 30-year-old was also pictured with his shorts lowered beneath his buttocks, but it is the alleged finger gesture that is more likely to land him with an SFA charge.
The SFA will convene a review panel if it decides the evidence warrants formal disciplinary procedures.
Celtic goalkeepers Artur Boruc and Lukasz Zaluska have both been fined 500 for making gestures to opposition fans in recent seasons, the latter while with Dundee United.
Meanwhile, Grampian Police are continuing their probe into Saturday's incident, which came at the end of a heated match in which Aberdeen were reduced to ten men.
Chief Inspector George MacDonald said in a statement yesterday: "Our enquiries with members of the public are being progressed at the moment. Once they have been completed, and any relevant evidence gathered, we will then be in touch with both clubs involved to make an assessment on how to progress the investigation."
