Selkirk 22 - 15 Glasgow Hawks: Hawks are grounded as
SELKIRK'S ability to fight back after a defeat was repeated for the fourth time this season at a fog-shrouded Philiphaugh.
The home side showed no hangover from their drubbing at Currie to stay in third place in the Scottish Hydro Electric Premiership 1.
Selkirk's adventurous attacking spirit was rewarded with a three-nil try count in their favour, but it was in defence that the players showed their commitment and determination.
Hawks pummelled the Selkirk line for the five minutes of injury time, and even though they had captain Neil Darling yellow-carded, the 14 men held out to retain their unbeaten home record.
Hawks had the consolation of a losing bonus point, but coach Peter Wright admitted: "Selkirk scored three tries and that tells its own story. We had chances at the end, but we did not take them."
Hawks remained embroiled in the relegation battle. "We now have to regroup and take it on from there. It is going to be a bit of a dogfight at the bottom," said Wright.
Selkirk coach Kevin Barrie added: "I thought our defence was superb, but we have to take that on board when we play away from home."
Scott Hendrie scored the only try of the first half when he cashed in on a mistake by full-back Craig Gossman.
Rob Taylor and Alex Dunbar, with three minutes left, touched down after the break, McVie kicking the other points. For Hawks Ian Noble struck three penalties and Robbie Hair kicked one and dropped a goal.
