Second Division: Livingston back on song to reclaim 11-point lead
Saturday was a good day for leaders Livingston as they bounced back from a midweek loss at Brechin to defeat visitors Alloa 4-0 and move 11 points clear.
They came to life in the second half when visiting defender Michael Dunlop handled in the box and former Recreation Park front man Iain Russell scored from the spot. Raffaele De Vita made it two within a minute after some more good work by Russell with the pair combining again for the Italian to add a third. Substitute Bobby Barr made it four in injury time to leave manager Gary Bollan satisified. He said: "We can now look forward to two tough games coming up against Forfar and Dumbarton."
In the battle to avoid relegation Stenhousemuir came out on top 4-2 in their clash with Peterhead to move to within a point of the home side and pile the pressure on Balmoor manager Neale Cooper.
Stenhousemuir were leading at half-time after a crazy 16-minute five-goal spell that started when Alex Williams curled the ball home with the outside of his foot from 16 yards on 29 minutes. Paul Emslie levelled before Callum MacDonald fired Cooper's side ahead. Scott Dalziel then bundled the ball home at the second attempt to restore parity. Right on half-time Stenhousemuir were in front again when Grant Anderson headed in and Simon Lynch sealed the win two minutes from time.
Cooper said: "That's five games in a row we have lost and that has never happened before."
Second-placed Brechin City lost 2-0 at Ayr United with Stuart Bannigan and Scott McLaughlin netting and Forfar beat Dumbarton 2-1. East Fife, meanwhile, lost 1-0 at home to Airdrie United.
