Second Division: Forfar and Ayr maintain play-off push

FORFAR and Ayr United both took another step towards securing promotion play-off places by winning last night, with Ayr leaving Brechin with a 3-0 success and the Loons beating Stenhousemuir 2-0.

Ayr made the breakthrough 12 minutes before from half-time when Michael Moffat shot home from the right-hand side of the box and Mark Roberts made it two from the penalty spot on 35 minutes.

The Honest Men, who face the toughest run-in of the play-off contenders, with two games in the coming week against champions Livingston, sealed the points when on-loan Hibs youngster David Crawford took advantage of a mistake by goalkeeper Craig Nelson to score.

Forfar moved five points clear of Airdrie United in the race for a play-off place with their victory, with striker Chris Templeman prominent throughout. He opened the scoring when he headed in a cross from Ryan Dow.

Then Templeman crossed from the left for Dow to shoot home in first-half injury time to complete the scoring.
