Second Division: Dumbarton shock leaders Alloa

DUMBARTON ended their four game losing streak by stunning league leaders Alloa 3-1 at Strathclyde Homes Stadium to hand Allan Maitland's side their first defeat in 11 games.

The Sons took the lead after 16 minutes when defender Ben Gordon headed home a free kick from David Winters and they started where they left off after the interval, doubling their advantage just two minutes into the second half.

Schoolboy international Alan Cook lashed home a free kick before things took another turn for the worse for Alloa. Visiting defender Scott Walker was red-carded for impeding Dennis Wyness on 56 minutes and Ross Clark despatched the penalty home to effectively wrap up the three points for Dumbarton. Chris Smith netted an own goal to give some small consolation to Alloa on an otherwise miserable night.

Cowdenbeath followed up their excellent 6-2 win over East Fife at the weekend, by scoring twice in three minutes for a 2-1 win over Arbroath to move second. The Gayfield men started well at Central Park with Paul Lunan opening the scoring after 19 minutes, however the Blue Brazil levelled on 62 minutes.

Striker Paul McQuade fired home with defender Darren McGregor netting from six yards to claim the three points.

Brechin City climbed above visitors Stirling Albion into third place thanks to their 1-0 win at Glebe Park. Mark Docherty's strike from the edge of the box on 29 minutes was the difference between the sides.

Stenhousemuir also lifted themselves up the table thanks to their 2-0 win over Peterhead at Ochilview. Defender Scott Gibb's close range goal on 73 minutes broke the deadlock with Scott Dalziel sealing things two minutes from time.

Nine-man East Fifehit back to grab a 1-1 draw against Clyde and keep a ten point gap on the Bully Wee at the foot of the table. The Fifers had plenty of early pressure, however they went behind right on half time when Ally Park shot home from the edge of the box. Stuart Cargill notched the equaliser with a low drive midway through the second period with Steve Crawford's side reduced to nine men with Paul McManus and Jonathan Smart sent off in the final 13 minutes.
