Second division: Alloa move into title contention
EAST Fife 0 Alloa Athletic 2
ALLOA Athletic moved to within three points of the league leaders after a comfortable 2-0 win over a poor East Fife side.
The visitors took the lead on the half hour when Gary Carroll's cross-shot was fumbled in at the near post by Fifer's 'keeper Mark Ridgers.
Ridgers partly redeemed himself eight minutes later when he brilliantly saved Andy Scott's penalty. There was no doubt about the award, Keith Watson having brought down Mark Gilhaney in the area.
East Fife's best chance fell to Lloyd Young, but his flying header was saved by David Crawford minutes into the second half.
Ian Russell got his first goal for Alloa to wrap things up seven minutes from time. The ex-Morton man made the goal himself and smashed past Ridgers.
Clyde 1 Arbroath 0
CLYDE got off to a winning start under 'Cowboy' John McCormack, as they beat Arbroath 1-0 at Broadwood.
Willie McLauchlan got the only goal of the game minutes before the break, completing a poor week for Arbroath.
