Second division: Sons blast Stenhousemuir with three goals in second half

STENHOUSEMUIR 0 DUMBARTON 3 Three second-half goals gave Dumbarton all three points from their visit to Ochilview yesterday afternoon.

Midfielder Roddy Hunter gave the Sons the lead in the 49th minute, and Scott Chaplain secured the points with a fine effort 15 minutes later.

Ross O'Donoghue put some gloss on the scoreline with a third goal a minute from time.

Brechin City 0 Arbroath 0

Brechin City and Arbroath drew their Angus derby 0-0 at Glebe Park.

Brechin went into the match with a 100 per cent home record, but Jim Weir's side proved to be a match for City and came away with a fine point in the gaffer's first game in charge.

Clyde 0 Cowdenbeath 1

Scott McBride's late penalty was enough to send Cowdenbeath top of the Second Division, while consigning a miserable Clyde to the bottom.

Gareth Wardlaw and Willie McLauchlan both missed first half chances for either side, and Paul McQuade also struck the crossbar.

After an earlier strong appeal, Cowdenbeath were awarded a spot-kick when Alan Lithgow handled, and McBride sent Calum Reidford the wrong way.

East Fife 1 Peterhead 2

Peterhead came from behind to beat ten-man East Fife 2-1 at New Bayview.

Peterhead Defender Bobby Mann looked to have secured a point for the visitors after he equalised Paul McManus' early strike, but drama was to follow.

With four minutes to go, Jon Smart was sent off in conceding a penalty, which John Stewart duly converted.

Stirling Albion 0 Alloa Athletic 1

Alloa beat Stirling for the second time this season, with Andy Scott again scoring the decisive goal.

Scott blasted a 23rd-minute penalty high into the net after Kenny Feaks had felled Stuart Noble in the area.

John O'Neill almost equalised in the second half, but it was the visitors, through Mark Brown, who came closest to scoring again.
