Second Division: Ayr aim to stay in hunt
AYR United will be looking to keep the pressure on league leaders Raith Rovers this afternoon as they host Alloa Athletic at Somerset Park.
Having slipped from top spot two weeks ago when they were beaten by Brechin City, Brian Reid's side will be desperate to ensure that Raith have to win against Arbroath next week to lift the trophy. United have so far gone through the season undefeated at home and the fact that even that is not enough to earn them pole position shows how well the top two sides have performed over the campaign.
Alloa, meanwhile, can secure their Second Division future if they record just their fourth away win of the season. A goalless draw at home to Queen's Park last week means Allan Maitland's side can still finish the season in the relegation play-off. But with their closest rivals facing the league leaders today, Maitland will be confident that he will not have to wait until the last day of the season and instead will be focusing on finishing above East Fife who sit only two points ahead of the Wasps.
Alloa recorded one of their finest performances of the season when they beat Ayr at Recreation Park in February and they will be hoping for a repeat of that display today.
