Scottish Cup: Motherwell make hard work of seeing off spirited Stranraer

Motherwell manager Stuart McCall was satisfied with, if not overly enthused by, his team's work after they beat Third Division Stranraer 2-0 to move into the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.

Steve Jones and John Sutton netted from close range towards the end of each half at Stair Park to steer Motherwell beyond spirited opponents.

The victory came at a cost, however, with Keith Lasley and Steven Saunders both suffering injuries and Steve Jennings picking up a suspension for the quarter-final.

But McCall, who confirmed he hopes to secure the signing of Francis Jeffers, said: "We knew it was going to be a tricky tie.

"We would have liked to have played better and made it easier for ourselves but all credit to Stranraer, they stuck at it and made it difficult for us at times," he admitted.

The Steelmen now face a trip to Tannadice and a tie against holders Dundee United on either March 12 or 13.
