Scottish Cup: Airdrie enjoy four-goal rout as Montrose stun East Fife
AIRDRIE thumped the 2008 finalists, Queen of the South, 4-0 thanks to a double from Alan Trouten and goals from John Baird and Dairmuid O'Carroll. The Diamonds raced to a three-goal half-time lead and former Celtic youngster O'Carroll made it four midway through the second-half.
Airdrie manager Kenny Black said: "We defended better than we have in previous weeks."
Ross County ended the interest of Berwick Rangers with a 5-1 win. Paul Di Giacomo scored twice and Paul Lawson hit a third before the first 45 minutes were up. Alan Brazil pulled a goal back before Steven Craig and Gary Wood completed the scoring.
Stirling halted the progression of Junior side Auchinleck Talbot after a struggle with Stewart Forsyth's second-half header being decisive in a 2-1 win. Liam Corr had opened the scoring for Albion with Sean McIlroy levelling with a penalty before half-time. Forthbank manager Allan Moore said: "We won through in a potential banana skin tie and that is all that really matters."
Highland League side Deveronvale were beginning to think about a replay against First Division Ayr United at Somerset Park when Ryan Stevenson broke the deadlock with 19 minutes to go to end the Banff's side's resistance and send the Honest Men through. Somerset Park boss Brain Reid said: "We held firm and deserved to go through."
Montrose, rooted to the foot of the Third Division without a win, defeated Second Division East Fife in a shock at Links Park, where Steven Tweed's side won 2-1. Paul Watson of Montrose and East Fife's Paul McManus exchanged second half goals before John Gemmell netted the winner from close range.
Albion Rovers broke their goal drought to progress 1-0 over Elgin City courtesy of Marc Pollock's second half goal from the edge of the box.
First Division Morton and Second Division Dumbarton will meet again after a goalless draw at Cappielow,
Raith Rovers and Peterhead require a replay after neither side could find a goal at Stark's Park, and Cowdenbeath and Alloa also finished goalless.
Meadowbank Stadium side Edinburgh City are dreaming of a capital clash with Hearts or Hibs after seeing off Highland League outfit Keith 3-1 with Dougie Gair's double adding to Jonathan Watt's own goal before Gary Harris hit a late consolation. City boss Shaun Steven said: "What a day it would be for us if we drew either of the other Edinburgh clubs."
The Highland League had success when Inverurie Locos made the long journey to Threave worthwhile by winning 2-1. Steven Park headed Locos ahead in six minutes and Michael Morrison put them two ahead in the second half. Rovers' substitute Jamie Struthers netted a late goal, however the men from the north held on. Threave's 48-year-old David Irons added to his existing record as the oldest player to have appeared in the Scottish Cup when he came on as a first half substitute.
The Clyde and Livingston clash was called off on 29 minutes due to fog with the Almondvale men leading 1-0 and the Stenhousemuir and Cove Rangers match at Ochilview was also abandoned with the score at 1-1.
