Scottish second division: Langfield helps Forfar pick up point and no longer ‘fed up’

ABERDEEN goalkeeper Jamie Langfield returned to action on Saturday for the first time in seven months when he kept goal for Forfar at Dumbarton.

Forfar struck three minutes into injury time through Kevin Motion to earn a 1-1 draw in atrocious conditions.

Langfield is hoping that by being between the sticks again, he will be simply as a goalkeeper rather than the goalkeeper who had a brain haemorrhage.

“I have grown a bit fed up of people talking about my illness and I now hope that people will talk about Jamie Langfield the goalkeeper and not Jamie Langfield the goalkeeper that had a brain illness,” the loan player said.

Langfield was helpless for Pat Walker’s 16th-minute goal but was delighted to see his side fight back for a point.

Joint-leaders Cowdenbeath and Arbroath were held to draws for a second week.

The Central Park side battled back three times to earn a 3-3 draw at Albion Rovers, whereas Arbroath let outright leadership slip through their hands when neighbours Brechin City scored a last-gasp equaliser in their game that finished 1-1.

The Blue Brazil fell behind early at Coatbridge when Robert Love netted from close range. However, Mark Ramsay converted a corner kick to level on 16 minutes.

Steven Lawless netted a second for Rovers on 64 minutes and Jon Robertson equalised three minutes later.

Lawless scored again to put his side in front a third time. However Colin Cameron’s side roared back again when substitute Greg Stewart fired home.

Arbroath took the lead against Brechin City on 63 minutes when midfielder Josh Falkingham shot home.

However, plans to celebrate moving two points ahead at the summit had to be cancelled when substitute Paul McManus netted from close range in the last seconds to tie the scores.

Stenhousemuir closed the gap on the top two to four points with a fine 3-1 success at East Fife.

Stewart Kean opened the scoring in the first half after being set up by strike partner Andy Rodgers and the pair combined again just after the break with Rodgers applying the finish to make it two.

Bobby Linn gave the Fifers hope 10 minutes from time. However, substitute Paul Quinn ensured that all three points were heading to Ochilview with a last-minute strike.

Bottom-of-the-table Stirling Albion scored their first league goal after five blanks when Lewis Bonar netted. However, they went down 4-1 to visitors Airdrie United, with the Diamonds’ Ryan Donnelly hitting a double while Paul Lovering and Willie McLaren added goals.
