Scotland manager: The contenders

CRAIG LEVEIN 2/1 For: Has a decent track record in the SPL and commands respect. Against: A poor relationship with Gordon Smith and the SFA may hinder his chances.

WALTER SMITH 4/1

For: Soon to be out of contract at Rangers, he has the experience to know exactly what is required.

Against: Smith says he could never return to a job he once left of his own volition.

JOHN COLLINS 5/1

For: Led Hibs to their first silverware in 16 years and has experience playing and coaching abroad.

Against: There are question marks about his ability to maintain harmony within a squad.

JIMMY CALDERWOOD 5/1

For: Available and took Aberdeen to the last 32 in Europe.

Against: Did well in the league but couldn't match this in the cup.

JIM JEFFERIES 5/1

For: Keeps Kilmarnock in the top flight despite having to drastically reduce the club's wage bill.

Against: Has not managed international-class players for a long time.

DARREN FERGUSON 14/1

For: Took Peterborough from League Two to the English Championship.

Against: Peterborough to Scotland? Seems too big a leap just at the moment.

KENNY DALGLISH 20/1

For: Enjoyed huge success in England with Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers.

Against: His managerial venture with Celtic, his only one in Scotland, ended badly.
