Scotland row their way to big medal haul in Canada
WITH the final session still to take place, the Scotland team at the Commonwealth Rowing Championships in Welland, Ontario, Canada, have amassed an impressive haul of five gold medals, one silver and six bronzes, with all eight athletes on the team each winning at least one medal.
Brother Chris and Jonny Logan from Glasgow Rowing Club successfully defended their status as Commonwealth champions, winning separate lightweight pairs events on Saturday and yesterday, and Jonny Logan won in lightweight single sculls on Saturday.
Inverness's Alan Sinclair and Lochwinnoch's Andy Holmes joined forces to win both double sculls and pairs on Saturday while the women's pair of Stephanie McDowell of Glasgow University and Edinburgh University's Polly Swann took sliver in women's pairs.
The bronze medals came from Strathclyde Park's Kelly Limont in lightweight single sculls; McDowell and Swann in double sculls; the men's coxless four featuring all four male Scottish athletes; and in women's quad sculls in which Aberdeen's Alex Gemie joined forces with McDowell, Swann and Limont.
