Last weekend, Christopher won the singles title at the prestigious Danish Junior Cup in Greve and the duo joined forces to win the boys’ doubles.

In the summer, the Grimley boys – elder brother Anthony also plays at Scottish level – and their parents enjoyed a visit to Wembley for a glut of badminton action at the London Olympics. “It was great to watch the top names,” said Matthew, who is the Scottish Under-13 National Champion. “I’d love to play in the Olympics in the future.”

Kirsty Gilmour, the teenager who has already played for Scotland in the Commonwealth Games, is a graduate of the Glasgow School of Sport.

“The boys have done really well so far,” said the 18-year-old who has won the Czech, Polish and Swiss Open titles in the past two months.

“The Danish Junior Cup is a huge event and I played in it many times, although I never managed to win a title.”
