School of hard Knox pays off for Cameron as he wins his debut bout

IT was like father like son at Craigmillar as young Cameron Knox, son of 1990s British amateur and professional flyweight champion Keith Knox, won his ring debut in impressive fashion at the Capital club's gym. Boxing on a 15-bout Youth and Novices bill, bantamweight Cameron showed excellent basic skills as he unanimously out-pointed gutsy Lochend opponent, Michael Haughan.

Another boxer with an illustrious championship pedigree was Dunfermline's Anthony Papp, who outpointed Craigmillar's James Bruce. Fife-based Papp is a great nephew of Hungarian Lazlo Papp, who won three Olympic Gold medals at middleweight in 1948, '52 and '56.

The best Craigmillar boxer was 19-year-old light heavyweight, Kevin Ceston, who won a close but merited points verdict over tough Livingston opponent, Andrew Campbell in an exciting tussle.

The show, which attracted a large crowd, was also a triumph for the city's Gilmerton boxers with youth prospect Sean Eng winning a unanimous decision over Dunfermline's Gordon Sinclair while Eng's Capital clubmate, featherweight, David Loudon, also won, beating Meadowbank rival, John Ferrier on points.

The quickest win came from Livingston welterweight Martin Taylor stopped Midlothian's Graham Stewart, courtesy of blistering punches in round one.
