School cross country: Successful fortnight for Thurso twins

It’s been a great couple of weeks for Thurso High School twins, Emma and Oonagh Dunnett.

Last weekend, they helped East of Scotland score a clean sweep in the girls’ under-17 inter district championships at the Bupa Great Winter Run in Edinburgh’s Holyrood Park.

Emma won the 5k championship in 16min 15sec, with Rachael Dunn (St George’s), the Scottish School’s Champion, in second place in 16:46. Oonagh claimed the bronze medal in 16:49.

Then on Sunday, the pair took part in the latest McCain Cross Country Challenge in Cardiff. Emma claimed the bronze medal in the under-17 4.6k behind the two top English athletes, Becky Straw and Jenny Nesbit. Oonagh was ninth.
