Saltman on track in Portugal
ZACK SALTMAN made it a good day for the Craigielaw golfing siblings as he moved into a share of fifth place during the second round of the Portuguese Amateur championship, writes NICK RODGER.
While older brother Lloyd was mounting a spirited charge up the standings in the Asian Tour's SAIL Open in India, Zack fired a four-under 68 at the Estela club to lead the Scottish challenge with a level-par aggregate of 144. Portugal's Pedro Figueiredo leads the way on 139 after a 69. As Saltman made a purposeful surge, the other local hopefuls in the field found the going tough with 2006 national boys' strokeplay champion Shaun McAllister slipping back to a 154 total with a 79.
Former Lothians champ Mark Hillson posted a 77 for 158 while Robert Carson of Dalmahoy managed to shave 12 shots off his opening 88 with a 76 but is still well down the rankings on 164. The Glen's Neil Henderson crashed to an 86 and finished with a 165.
