Russell catches Levein's eye with two-goal display
CRAIG Levein watched as Airdrie United stepped up their promotion bid on Saturday, and the Dundee United manager must have been impressed by striker Alan Russell as he knocked in a double in the 2-0 win at Queen's Park.
Russell almost signed for Kilmarnock just before the transfer window closed, and could still be a target in the summer for the Rugby Park club.
Russell has shrugged aside the disappointment of not getting his move but other Premier clubs have been alerted.
He said: "I have now scored 19 this season and that is the most in my career. I am hoping to reach 25 and I am looking to step up the leagues next season."
Ross County manager Derek Adams was frustrated after their 1-1 draw at Peterhead. Sean Higgins gave County the lead, but Peterhead struck back through Martin Bavidge. Even though they were left with ten men after Stuart Anderson's sending-off, County could not take advantage.
Adams said: "I am a bit disappointed with a point. But we are unbeaten in 11 games with 31 points from 33."
Raith Rovers' Iain Davidson scored twice in their 3-2 win over Cowdenbeath, with David Goodwillie also on target. But they got a fright as keeper Chris Fahey's own goal and Paul McQuade pulled Cowden level before Davidson's late winner. Raith manager John McGlynn said: "We fought to the end and showed our character."
Hopefuls Brechin and Alloa shared the points in a 0-0 draw, while a late Ryan Stevenson goal earned Ayr a 1-0 win over bottom club Berwick.
