Rugby: Sweet sixteen for Lasswade try machine
LASSWADE went agonisingly close to breaking the 100-point mark on Saturday as they scored 16 tries against Stewartry to bounce back from last weekend's loss at Highland, writes GARY HEATLY.
The home side blew away the opposition 98-3 at Hawthornden in the Scottish Hydro National Two match to keep themselves second in the table behind runaway leaders Greenock Wanderers. Man of the match Gavin Brown grabbed two tries with teenage winger Kyle Smith also getting a brace on only his third appearance for the top team.
Elsewhere in National Two, Preston Lodge lost 41-6 at Hawick YM to leave them second bottom.
In National One Murrayfield Wanderers toughed out a 22-15 win at Langholm, Edinburgh University went down 25-0 to promotion chasing Whitecraigs and RHC Cougars posted their second successive draw, 26-26 at Livingston.
Trinity Accies were on form in National Two as they were 55-3 victors over Hawick Linden, while Forrester and Ross High lost to Marr and GHK respectively.
East One leaders North Berwick edged out Edinburgh Northern 22-21 at Inverleith Park to stay top. Portobello are still breathing down their neck after a 50-7 win over struggling Penicuik and there were also wins for Lismore, Earlston and Duns.
Leaders Dalkeith won 45-14 at Walkerburn in East Two and Inverleith were equally impressive when seeing off St Boswells 58-13.
