Rugby: Lamont sure Scots can win four matches

SEAN LAMONT has set Scotland an 80 per cent win target as they prepare to launch another RBS Six Nations Championship bid at home to Wales on Sunday.

And the 36-times capped winger is refusing to rule out a repeat of exactly a decade ago when they previously lifted the title. "We can win our three home games and steal one away," says the Northampton ace.

"I genuinely think that's realistic and it would give us a share of the championship.

"The best I've been involved in was a third place so that would be magnificent. Wales have been really tough but our front five are going so well that they'll give us a platform against anyone."

That front five looks likely to be disturbed unfortunately, with first-choice prop Euan Murray doubtful and second row Nathan Hines also doubtful with a knee problem.

Nevertheless votes of confidence have been given by the team management to their likely successors and Lamont also insists Scotland can do damage behind the scrum.

"In the backs there's a lot of exuberance with new guys like Thom Evans and outside centre Ben Cairns while Chris Paterson is busy breaking every single Scottish record. It's the best mix I've seen in my time with Scotland."
