Stirling County 42 - 42 Aberdeen: Thriller at Bridgehaugh as Grammar and County draw
Games involving these sides this season have been nothing if not exciting and yesterday, they combined to produce a thriller.
This match burst into immediate life, Stirling bustling upfield from the kick-off for Craig Deacons to score a try that Stuart Edwards converted. But Ade Hales completed an Aberdeen drive with a touchdown three minutes later, before Edwards stretched County’s lead with a penalty. Erlend Oag levelled for the visitors, Mark Ryan adding the extras, and then James Knight put Grammar in front when he touched down. Matt Lamb scored next for Stirling, Edwards converted, then chipped over a further kick to give Stirling a narrow interval lead.
Ryan soon levelled with a penalty before Will Wardlaw went over to give them the lead. But Stirling’s pro Byron McGuigan got a breakaway try, and Edwards increased the lead with a try and conversion. Peceli Nacamavuto tied the score when he breached County’s defence, Ryan adding the extras. Then Edwards knocked over a penalty for a slender lead that was wiped out by Ryan’s boot with six minutes left.
Danny Gilmour looked to have won it for County, Edwards adding the conversion but Cam Eyre touched down, with Alex Hagart converting for the draw.
