SRU want Heineken increase

SRU chief executive Mark
Dodson confirmed he has pushed for an extra eight teams
in future Heineken European Cups.

The English and French want qualification on merit and a
reduction from 24 to 20 teams.

But Dodson says: “We
have put forward a 32-team format and will see where that goes.”

That could end a damaging dispute and a system where the two best group runners-up go through to the knock-out stage.

n WATSON’S College will tomorrow evening bid to reach the semi-final of the Brewin Dolphin Under-18 Scottish Schools cup when they entertain Hutchesons’s Grammar at Myreside.

Already through are Merchiston Castle, Dundee High and Stewart’s Melville, who ended Edinburgh Academy’s reign with a 15-10 win with tries by Ryan Frost and Russell Grant. n UNBEATEN Ulster are set to give a first start to full-back Rick Andrew against Edinburgh in the Pro 12 tomorrow.
