Six Nations: Scotland lose Strokosch and face sweat on winger Evans

Scotland face the prospect of trying to revive their RBS Six Nations campaign without flanker Alasdair Strokosch and wing Max Evans.

Gloucester forward Strokosch suffered a fractured hand in Scotland’s 27-13 loss to Wales in Cardiff on Sunday and was examined by his club’s medical team yesterday.

Scotland team doctor James Robson said in a statement issued by the Scottish Rugby Union: “Recovery from such an injury takes typically between four to six weeks.”

Scotland are still waiting for news over Castres back Evans, who was forced off with an ankle injury and left The Millennium Stadium on crutches and wearing an immobilising boot.

Robson added: “Max was seen by the specialist ankle surgeon John McKinley at Spire Murrayfield Hospital yesterday and we will await a further update later this week.”

Strokosch won his 25th cap in the match with Wales and was replaced by John Barclay, who could now team up with Ross Rennie and David Denton in the back row for the next match in the tournament, the February 26 home clash with France.

Denton (foot) and prop Ed Kalman (neck) also required medical attention after the loss and will be monitored this week before the Scotland squad reconvene next week to prepare for Les Bleus.

The ridiculous thing here was that Strokosch broke his hand mid way through the first half but played on until the first few minutes of the second half. Surely the medical staff and the player himself must have known that the hand was damaged, yet we played an injured Strokosch ahead of a fit Barclay for a quarter of the match

It's the curse of England for Strokosch. He should have kept his mouth shut about hating the English. Not that I'd want anyone to get injured, but I hope that we will be spared the nasty comments that seem to come from one player or another every time Scotland play England. And if it's a tactic, it doesn't seem to work very well anyway.

R Lamont to wing in place of Evans allowing Hogg to start as well. He made some good running when he moved there on Sunday and we looked more balanced with a physcial winger on one side and Hogg at Full Back. Harley in place of Stroker please with Barclay covering all three back row positions from the bench.
