Rugby: Stuart out to shine for A team

Edinburgh Rugby forward Stuart McInally will use tonight’s Scotland A clash with English Saxons at Newcastle to boost his hopes of finally winning full international honours.

Last summer, McInally toured with Scotland and his career reached a peak when he sat on the bench for the first time when South Africa visited Murrayfield.

Alas, McInally did not cross the whitewash for a cap but the experience left him wanting more. He said: “It was great being called into the squad but disappointing not to get on.

“Since then my performances have not been up to scratch, but I’ve had a good chat with (national coach) Scott Johnson and (defence coach) Matt Taylor and they have given me a few clear things to work on which I’ll keep to myself but hopefully use to put my hand up for selection later in this Six Nations and perhaps the summer tour.”
