Rugby: Johnston kick-starts North Berwick revival over Trinity

Connor JOHNSTON was the star as North Berwick battled back from 17-5 down at half-time to defeat Trinity Accies in the RBS Edinburgh Regional Shield on Saturday.

The Edinburgh outfit travelled to East Lothian to take on a side from the division above them and put in a great first 40 minutes to build up the 12-point lead.

However, North Berwick found their form after the interval with Johnston leading the way with four tries.

Liam West also scored two and Grant Spence grabbed one in the 37-12 win.

That match was in Pool Four and also in that section RHC Cougars defeated Edinburgh Northern 21-8.

In Pool One Portobello saw off Lismore 87-0.

In Pool Two Jamie King scored a hat-trick of tries as 
Livingston defeated Dunbar 
41-17 to make it 11 wins on the spin in all competitions.

Andy McMahon, John Bruton, Neil Scobie and Lewis Cantley also scored for the victors in West Lothian.

In Pool Three Edinburgh University Blues thumped Ross High 105-7 and Preston Lodge won 37-17 at Dalkeith.

In the RBS East Regional Bowl Inverleith suffered their first defeat of the season with a 30-21 loss to Liberton coming at Double Hedges.

In the other tie played Leith progressed to the quarter-finals after a comfortable 41-9 victory over Queensferry at Academy Park.

There were also two matches in RBS East Three on Saturday.

Penicuik put in a great showing to win 43-14 at RDVC while Moray House edged out Broughton 31-29.
