RBS Regional Cup: Murrayfield make Heriot’s work to make most of switch to home ground

Heriot’s remain unbeaten in the RBS Edinburgh Regional Cup, but were made to battle all the way by Murrayfield Wanderers yesterday, writes Gary Heatly.

With the Murrayfield back pitches unplayable, the match was switched to Goldenacre and despite the chill the teams put on an entertaining 80 minutes. Though Heriot’s came out on top, Wanderers will take most credit, with the RBS Championship B side having pushed three higher division clubs close this term.

Skipper Graham Wilson led the way for the home side with two tries while back-row Jamie Syme also went over for two. Centre Max Learmonth and hooker Stewart Mustard, pictured, scored the other two tries with Wilson slotting two conversions for their 34-24 win.

Alex Cox scored two tries for Murrayfield Wanderers with Chris Hill and Ally Borland also going over and Chris Beattie kicking two conversions.

Elsewhere in the Edinburgh section, Biggar won 39-12 at Haddington. All other games were postponed.

In the RBS West Regional Cup, GHA took on Ardrossan Accies and came back with a 37-3 win. The result means GHA have won three from four in Group A as they prepare to welcome overall national cup holders Ayr to Braidholm next Saturday.

And Greenock Wanderers defeated Whitecraigs 25-20 in their clash at Fort Matilda, the only other West cup match to beat the weather.
