RBS Premiership Rugby: Edinburgh Accies 40 - 17 Dundee HSFP
Accies celebrated a second successive win in the Premiership after running in six tries, five of them converted by Ruairidh Bonner, as they outgunned an understrength Dundee HSFP, writes Alan Lorimer at Raeburn Place.
However, their joy was tempered by the news that teenager Jamie Farndale, the top try scorer in this year’s IRB Junior World Championship, had sustained a fractured tibia early in the game.
Accies took time to recover from his departure but as the game progressed their back division, given a good supply of ball by an aggressive and skilful pack, gained in confidence. Impressive for Accies were quick-passing scrum-half Johnny Adams, pacy full back Ruairidh Young and debutant openside Andrew Findlater, who combined well with fellow back rows, Dan Teague and Callum Reid.
At half time with scoreline at 7-7 it looked an evenly matched contest, Young having scored for Accies and Richie Hawkins for Dundee. But Accies stepped up the tempo in the second half to score tries by Teague and Reid, before Stewart Walker crossed for Dundee.
When Ewan Campbell touched down Accies had their bonus point. Two more tries, by Gavin Douglas and Teague, followed before Dundee earned a late score by front row Poloc Islam.
