Heriot’s 26 - 28 Edinburgh Accies: Dramatic late win for Accies
Edinburgh Accies fought back from 26-6 down to clinch their first win of the season in dramatic circumstances.
Heriot’s were gifted their first try of the afternoon after just two minutes, an interception pass gratefully taken by young Kiwi second-row Jack Turley, with captain Graham Wilson adding the extras.
Further tries came from full-back Mike Penn, again after a suicidal intercept pass by the visitors, and former skipper Marc Teague before a penalty try came just before the interval.
And with Accies prop Lewis Niven having headed to the sin bin just before the fourth try was scored, it had been a poor half for Simon Cross’s men, who had just two Ruairidh Bonner penalties on the board.
But after the break they were a changed side and, helped by two Heriot’s yellow cards, they were just ten points behind with 13 minutes to play thanks to tries from Callum Reid and Jamie Farndale.
With eight minutes to go, replacement Niall Godsmark scored a converted try to set up a thrilling finale. Full-back Josh Pecqueur then dived over in the corner with full-time approaching after a period of sustained pressure by Accies to leave the home side stunned and the visitors elated.
