Head coach Phil Leck expects ‘cracker’ as Hawick take on leaders

Hawick head coach Phil Leck is looking forward to today’s match of the day in the RBS National League when his own free-scoring outfit take on another side who like to throw the ball around in the shape of leaders Glasgow Hawks.

The Greens, in third place, travel to Old Anniesland on the back of three wins in a row and have scored 154 points in the process in seeing off Biggar, Kelso and Hillhead/Jordanhill.

They did let in 40 points to the Hughenden side seven days ago though and although Leck does not want his young side to stop attacking with flair he has been working hard with them this week on the defensive side of things.

He said: “I have been pleased with the last few weeks and I like the youthful enthusiasm of this group of players. They have a good team spirit and if we can lose some of the naivety that we have in our game then we will do alright.

“Hawks have been the team to beat this season and from all accounts they have been playing some expansive rugby. As our recent scores suggest we like to do the same and I think it is set up to be a cracker.”

Hawick travel without injured duo Shawn Muir and Rory Scott while Hawks have John Lohoar back to start at prop.

Elsewhere today second-place Watsonians are looking for a seventh win on the spin when they head to Kelso.

Fourth-place Selkirk are at home to Biggar while Stewart’s Melville are looking for their fourth win in a row as they head to bottom side Jed-Forest.

Hamilton and Hillhead/Jordanhill meet at Laigh Bent with the hosts looking to build on six tries scored, albeit in defeat, at Hawick last time out.
