Glasgow Hawks 12 - 17 Hawick: Hawks fall to battling Hawick

Glasgow Hawks’ chances of top flight status next season suffered a jolt as they fell to a scrappy defeat at the hands of Hawick.

An early break from Neil Renwick seemed to have been quashed by the home rear guard, but defensive errors allowed the full-back to regain possession. Renwick converted before knocking over a penalty moments later, taking full advantage of the gale force wind at his back.

Hawks struggled with the elements, with a lack of attacking accuracy compounded by misplaced passes and handling errors. A Ross Miller try midway through the half was scant reward from a period in which they dominated possession, and held a distinct numerical advantage, with the visitors reduced to 13 men.

On the stroke of half time, Hawick extended their advantage when Graham Hogg grabbed an interception on the edge of the Hawks 22 to cross the whitewash, Renwick slotting the extras.

The hosts started the second half brighter, a Kerr Gossman score acting as an indication of intent, but they failed to capitalise on the territorial advantage they held throughout, as Hawick held on for a courageous victory.

As a Hawick supporter what a great performance to go to Glasgow Hawks and take the points with a tremendous win....Peter Wright should take a leaf out of Hawicks coachs Phil Leck .Rocky Johnstone. and learn how to go about your business during a game without having to resort to ranting at everbody.....some people cant change though.........Well done Hawick.rfc.................hope Cush's injury is not too serious

I was not at the game, however if what I hear is true re Mr Wright I hope that all the officials involved man up and report this individual.

Peter Wrights position at both Hawks and u20s could soon be on a shoogly peg witnessing recent results.... wouldn't be a bad thing if he went .......Wright usually talks a load of 'keegh' through a hole in his pants.....

Reading into these comments ts seems that not many Teris are great supporters of Mr Wright. He does have a reputation of speaking to officials like dirt though. I'm led to beleive he's one of the coaching staff at the SRU. Surely this needs to be addressed if he's coaching our future hopes. I'm all for wearing your heart on your sleeve but shouting & swearing at a referee is totally unacceptable. Well done Hawick for a great win

What makes this victory even better is the fact Hawick had 3 players sin binned and scored there 2nd try when they were down to 13 men! Great to see the lads with terrific team spirit so fingers crossed they kick on from here!

Hawick played this game with something you cant coach......... HEART....and pride of playing for your town..... Peter Wright shouting and balling all afternoon was deplorable ....... In contrast to Phil Leck who let the actions on pitch do the talking ..... A lot of the Hawks team have no heart and very little stomach for a fight when things arent going their way

Fantastic result for The Green Machine yesterday and are starting to look like competitive squad with every passing week thanks to Phil Leck! As for Peter Wright yes he played for Scotland and the Lions but that doesnt give him the right to try and influence the referee like he did on several occasions yesterday, George Graham at Gala is just as bad must be an ex pro mentality at the level! Never mind onwards and upwards for Hawick, Bring on Accies next weekend lads well done!

Id imagine The look yesterday on Peter Wrights face would be a joy to behold............seriosly he is an ignorant and vile person in real life and by results is clearly not a very good coach

As a nuetral at this game...I have to complain about the way Peter Wright conducted himself during this game..he came across as a vile and arrogent person..I had my small son with me Wrights constant obsene shouting of abuse to Officials and players alike was a disgrace.and really should be looked at by Hawks officials as it was embarrassing to see an SRU coach shouting expletives ................. doesn't do Glasgow Hawks reputation any favours .........really got what he deserved with Hawick winning......dont think i'll be back to Anniesland in a hurry if this atmosphere isn't addressed
