Frustration as Boroughmuir and Heriot’s match called off
BOTH Boroughmuir and Heriot’s were left frustrated yesterday after their scheduled RBS Premiership match was postponed early in the morning despite overnight rain stopping soon after.
A number of supporters and even some players from both clubs – including the Heriot’s captain Graham Wilson – took to various social media networks yesterday afternoon to question the wisdom of the decision taken by Edinburgh Leisure, who run Meggetland’s facilities, to call off the match at 10am.
Most of the views stated that if they had held on until lunchtime to make a decision ahead of the 7.30pm kick-off then there would have been a chance to get the game played.
When contacted by The Scotsman in the afternoon Heriot’s head coach Phil Smith said: “It is very frustrating as we were looking to keep our decent run of form going. Having spoken to officials at Boroughmuir, I know that they were pretty surprised by the early call too.”
However, tomorrow’s Rugby League Alitalia European Cup tie between Scotland and Ireland, which also takes place at Meggetland and kicks off at 2pm, is expected to go ahead as scheduled.
