Fly-half role for Scots-link Springbok Patrick Lambie
PATRICK Lambie, a South African youngster with strong Scottish genes, is to be handed the No 10 jersey on this month’s tour of the UK and given the chance to claim it as his own for the 2015 World Cup.
The 22-year-old, whose dad Ian hails from Troon and is related to former Scotland captain and goal-kicker Peter Brown, represented the Springboks for the first time on their UK and Ireland tour in 2010, making his debut against the Irish and playing against Scotland. He is in line to face Ireland again next weekend, and then heads this way for another Murrayfield meeting the following week. The youngster has amassed 17 caps in that time, beating England, Ireland, Wales, New Zealand and Australia. In fact, there is only one team that he has played against and not beaten – Scotland – and it now seems that he will be given responsibility for leading the Boks’ bid for revenge in Edinburgh this month.
Fly-half Johan Goosen is out of the squad with injury and coach Heyneke Meyer said: “Pat will definitely be a contender there; I think he can be a great fly-half. I want to use this opportunity to see what Pat can do at this level.”
