Edinburgh Accies 24 - 7 Stewart’s Melville: Accies forwards dominate
ACCIES boosted their challenge for a place in next season’s top flight with a five-point haul built on a dominant performance by their forwards. The visitors, who started the day as leaders of Premier B, can take credit for refusing to buckle in the latter stages.
Stewart’s Melville had the better of the early opportunities but failed to capitalise on their pressure. And it was the hosts who eventually made the breakthrough in 28 minutes when winger Jake Knight blazed down the flank and fed Ruaridh Bonner, who dotted down. Stewart’s Melville snatched the lead with the final move of the half when Liam Steele freed Andy Hughes for a try which Mike Hanning converted via the post.
Accies grabbed back the initiative when Bonner picked out the onrushing Tom Drennan with a perfectly weighted pass and the No.8 powered over. Bonner converted then turned creator when he fired out a pass for his brother Euan to sprint in at the corner.
And the hosts hammered home their superiority when Andrew Findlater burst through two tackles then angled his run perfectly to secure the bonus point try, Bonner’s conversion completing the scoring.
