Edinburgh Tens draws high-calibre teams to Raeburn Place

Twelve rugby teams will battle it out for the Hunters Residential Edinburgh Tens title today at Raeburn Place.

Now in its third year, the tournament has grown in stature and, with a mixed touch rugby tournament also taking place at the Stockbridge ground, there is set to be more than 400 players taking part. There will also be lots of entertainment off the pitch, such as catering and a bouncy castle. The teams involved in the tens event are: Bootleggers, The Buccaneers, Edinburgh Accies, Gladiator Rugby, Foul Fashion 10, Les Kebabs, Pailmerks, The Pigbarians, Rodent Rugby, Grim Creepers, Stockholm Exiles and Tornadoes.

Although mainly social sides, expect the standard to be high as a number of the teams will feature top club players from around Scotland.

Last year, Edinburgh-based Rodent Rugby won in the final and their squad look set to be pretty strong again, being led by Currie duo John Cox and Richard Snedden.

The Pailmerks are a new team, but with the majority of the squad from the Galashiels area and all having played for Gala RFC at some point, they could be dark horses for the title.

Foul Fashion 10 will include the likes of Heriot’s captain Graham Wilson in their squad, while charity outfit The Pigbarians are captained by ex-Scotland Sevens stalwart Mark Lee. Les Kebabs is a team formed in 2009 mainly including Rugby Club Drancy’s players from a Paris suburb while the Stockholm Exiles will be featuring a mix of British ex-pats and Swedish players.

One of the event organisers Jonny Jenkins said: “We are really pleased with the calibre of teams that have signed up to take part this year and, with the great response we have had from the touch rugby teams, it is promising to be a great day.”

The event starts at 11am.
