Edinburgh Cup final looks set to be tight affair

Currie and Heriot’s meet
tonight in the RBS Edinburgh Regional Cup final at Malleny Park (7.30pm) with the winner set to play Dundee HSFP in the national cup quarter-finals next month.

The sides have already met two times this season and, given the results in those matches, tonight looks set to be another tight affair. In October they drew 27-27 on RBS Premiership league duty at Goldenacre while at the end of December Heriot’s came out on top 24-21 in the group stages of the regional cup.

Currie go into the match having recorded six group wins from six while Heriot’s won four of their five games. The home side are boosted by the return of
the experienced Ross Weston in the back row while front row men Fraser Watt and Mike Erskine are back to full fitness.

Currie head coach Ally Donaldson said: “Heriot’s have been in great form of late and will have been disappointed to lose at Dundee last week [in the league]. We enjoy playing Friday night matches at Malleny and look forward to this one with some anticipation.”

Heriot’s travel across town with a strong squad. Kevin Bryce starts at hooker and Max Nimmo is also back on the wing.

Meanwhile, at Myreside
tonight Watsonians will be looking for their first league win since 3 November when they host Stewart’s Melville in the RBS National League.
