Edinburgh Accies 18 - 15 Boroughmuir: Accies battle back to edge tight victory

Edinburgh Accies have been involved in too many tight games to mention this season and this was another one, in which they came out on top.

SCORERS:

Edinburgh Accies: Tries: Godsmark, Allan, Teague. Drop goal: Bonner.

Boroughmuir: Tries: Hoyland, Guedroudj. Pen: Warnock. Con: Warnock.

Following the gripping affair at Raeburn Place, Accies head coach Simon Cross said: “I was pleased with the way the guys fought back after Boroughmuir had started pretty well and I must pay credit to [backs coach] Jonny Else, who has been telling the guys to set up for a drop goal in tight situations and this time it worked for us.”

The visitors built up a 10-0 lead during the first half thanks to a penalty by stand-off Ally Warnock and a converted try by full-back Damien Hoyland, whose stock has been rising in recent weeks and, on this form, he will be guaranteed a place in the Scotland under-20s Six Nations squad.

For his try in this match he was fed the ball on the halfway line and did the rest himself with excellent speed and strength.

Accies took heart, though, when Nyle Godsmark dived over to chalk up their first points of the day and, in the 51st minute – with ’Muir’s Greig Scott in the sin-bin – they levelled things up at 10-10 when prop Alex Allan went over.

With 59 minutes on the clock, the visitors regained the lead with a well taken try by winger Redha Guedroudj before Accies rallied again with a try by skipper Dan Teague and then the winning drop goal by stand-off Ruairidh Bonner in the 73rd minute.
