Dundee HSFP 32 - 19 Melrose: Dundee register first win since September

DUNDEE High registered their first win in the premiership since 8 September, hauling themselves off the bottom of the league at the expense of a lethargic Melrose whose title prospects are now over, writes Jack Nixon at Mayfield.

The wonder of the 32-19 win was the fact that it took the Taysiders until the final quarter to underline their supremacy, having to rely on five penalties from full-back Jamie Urquhart to seal the win.

Melrose, to their credit, did manage to score two tries through Andy Walker and Ross Miller.

Dundee finished the stronger to move above Boroughmuir before taking a welcome break to the relief of coach Ian Rankin.

“We deserve a break, building on our good showing against Ayr last week. We’ll survive” said Rankin.

Melrose have now lost their last three games, posing huge questions about the future of coach Craig Chalmers.

“It was a poor game. Dundee are the worst team we’ve played this season, but then we are making a habit of losing to poor teams.” said Chalmers.
