Dundee HSFP 31 - 10 Boroughmuir: Substitutes drive Dundee to storming victory
DUNDEE High forced their way back into title contention with a rousing four-try second-half performance at home to a Boroughmuir side who had looked the likely winners going into the break.
The Meggetland side were, however, unable to cash in on their domination and had to settle for a Keith Buchan try in 11 minutes, converted by Graeme Blackhall. Blackhall also kicked a penalty, giving them a half-time lead of 10-0.
Thereafter the game belonged to Dundee, inspired by half-time substitutes, forwards Andy Linton and Danny Levison.
They had an immediate impact on the outcome with Levison scoring two opportunist tries to help the Taysiders grab a bonus point in a storming second-half performance.
Further tries from Andy Redmayne and scrum-half Andy Dymock heaped more misery on ‘Muir. Full back Jamie Urquhart kicked three conversions and a penalty, while winger Stewart added a conversion. ‘Muir were not helped by injuries to several players including the highly influential Jamie Swanson at No 8.
“We simply ran out of players and had too many front row on the pitch. We were exposed when the ball was spread wide although we had a good first half,’’ said Boroughmuir coach Fergus Pringle.
In contrast, Dundee’s head coach Ian Rankin was delighted his side had come good after a shaky opening 40 minutes. “We had hungry players on the bench who were keen to make an impact. This is a great squad,’’ he said.
