Boroughmuir 28 - 15 Stirling County: Front row rookies earn Pringle’s praise

Boroughmuir head coach Fergus Pringle heaped praise on his front-row after their dominance in the scrums helped the Edinburgh side to defeat Stirling County at Meggetland on Saturday.

SCORERS:

Boroughmuir – Tries: Henderson, Turner, penalty try. Pens: Warnock (3). Cons: Warnock (2).

Stirling County – Tries: Forrester, McDonald. Pen: Edwards. Con: Edwards.

Young Edinburgh trainees Robin Hislop and George Turner along with Jonny Latta started in the key number one, two and three spots and their collective performance, along with that of replacement prop Robbie Wilson, was impressive to watch. Pringle said: “I thought the front-row did well given that they are all young guys. Their performances set the tone for us.”

The home side were up 11-0 before County got on the board with stand-off Stuart Edwards kicking a penalty just after the half hour mark.

The best play of the half came in the 38th minute when ‘Muir attacked from their own half and Turner converted a try on his home debut.

After the break the home side went further ahead at 21-3 before three tries, including two for County, were scored in a frantic last few minutes.

It was, however, too little, too late and a penalty try for Boroughmuir sealed the win.

For County, their winless run now extends from 8 September and despite the two late tries, they never really troubled Boroughmuir’s defence.
