Boroughmuir 22 - 38 Ayr: Late red card taints fine victory
Ayr kicked off their RBS Premiership campaign with an impressive bonus point win but the afternoon was marred for Kenny Murray’s men by a late red card for Ross Curle following a spear tackle.
Boroughmuir’s Graeme Blackhall opened the scoring with an early penalty but the visitors responded with a try from Scott Sutherland, then Craig Gossman powered over from half way. But Boroughmuir’s Sean Crombie plunged over and Blackhall squared matters with the conversion.
Ayr ended the half in style when Nick Cox thundered over and Peter Jericevich converted. Kerr Gossman’s bonus point try was followed by a second for Sutherland before Callum Forrester got his side’s sixth score – Jerecevich booting the extras each time. But a late flourish by Boroughmuir yielded tries for Greig Scott and Andy Rose, the former converted by Keith Buchan.
