Edinburgh and Scotland A back row Stuart McInally is poised to begin his competitive role as a hooker with Premiership side Currie and will be included in their squad for Saturday’s trip to Stirling County. McInally is looking forward to the challenge of helping them climb the table.

He said: “Currie have allowed me to train with them over the past few weeks to get to know the players and learn some of the calls.”

Ex-Watsonians player McInally added: “I’m really excited to play for them.

“They are a hardworking bunch of guys eager to get off the bottom of the table and I’m looking forward to contributing to the second half of their season.”

Meanwhile, Currie have questioned the reliance on overseas players in the Scottish professional game.

An official programme article this week, headlined “View from the Stand”, stated: “Is it time to draw a line and sacrifice foreign talent for Scottish-born players? We have an ever-growing number of youngsters taking up the game in Scotland, with future Matt Scotts and Jonny Grays.

“But their chance of representing Scotland is being diminished with the SRU’s eagerness to look elsewhere for players.”
