Chris Clitheroe bagged a hat-trick of tries as Inverleith defeated Leith in the battle of the top two in RBS East Three on Saturday.

The match was in doubt on Friday night due to the rain but Arboretum was playable come Saturday lunchtime and both teams gave it their all in this one. Eventually the hosts won 29-14 with Clitheroe leading the way with his three scores.

It means they have won eight from eight in the league and all with bonus points and they now lead Leith by five points with a game in hand.

Penicuik are third after they won the only other game in the division at the weekend, seeing off Queensferry 17-7.

In the RBS Edinburgh Regional Shield the matches at Lismore, Preston Lodge and Trinity Accies fell foul of the weather. Dunbar defeated Forrester 35-5 at Hallhill though, Jamie Peters, Sandy Thomson, Calum Champion, James Kelly and Blair Mills scoring the tries for the East Lothian men.

Dalkeith put in a great showing to see off the Edinburgh University Blues 38-12 and RHC Cougars edged out North Berwick 15-10.

The first ever competitive match for Bo’ness saw them lose 90-0 in the RBS East Regional Bowl with the Borderers now hosting Penicuik in the last eight this weekend.
