CURRIE piled on the misery for Boroughmuir on Saturday with a 39-7 victory at Meggetland in the RBS Edinburgh Regional Cup.

The home loss came seven days after ‘Muir were defeated by Aberdeen Grammar in the dying stages in the RBS Premiership and they have now gone five matches without a win in all competitions.

Jonny Gray scored an early converted try for Currie to make it 7-0 and that lead was extended to 15-0 when Alex Fisken scored his second try in two top team starts and Jack Broadley kicked a penalty on his debut.

John Cox then added Currie’s third try after a great break by Scotland Sevens man Liam Draycott and at 22-0 at the interval the visitors were in complete control.

Glasgow Warriors’ fringe man Fergus Scott then grabbed Currie’s fourth try before ‘Muir scored one of their own to make it 27-7.

The men from Malleny Park were to have the final say though with two more tries through Gray again and Mike Erskine.

At Myreside, Chris Scott scored two tries but was later sent off as Watsonians defeated Lasswade 49-7. Scott McKean, Ewan Miller, Harris Grant, Andrew Chalmers, Jonny Duthie and Jack Ferguson also scored tries for the victors.

Also in that section, Heriot’s battled hard to see off city rivals Edinburgh Accies 27-17.

Biggar defeated Stewart’s Melville 37-22, a good start seeing them on the way to the win, and Musselburgh edged out Murrayfield Wanderers 13-12.

In the RBS West Regional Cup, last year’s overall national cup winners Ayr survived an early scare to see off Hillhead/Jordanhill. The hosts were 8-7 down early on at Millbrae, but eventually came through 19-8 thanks to tries from man of the match Graham Fisken and Cammy Taylor.

Glasgow Hawks and GHA were among the other teams to notch wins in that section.
