Gavin Henson pub fight claim to be investigated

  • by ANDY HAMPSON

Bath are investigating reports that new signing Gavin Henson was allegedly punched by a team-mate in a pub this week. It has been reported Wales internationalist Henson, who joined the club last month, was involved in an incident in the Pig and Fiddle in the city.

The fracas allegedly occurred on Wednesday night and the Aviva Premiership club have confirmed they are looking into the matter.

A club statement read: “Bath Rugby can confirm there was a minor incident in the city centre on Wednesday night involving a few members of the playing squad. The club are investigating the matter and will only make a statement when further information is available.”

Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed they received a call reporting “aggressive behaviour” that night, but, while the caller was on the line, the group left the pub and so officers were not required to attend. Consequently no offences are being investigated.

The Pig and Fiddle declined to comment, while Henson’s representatives could not be contacted earlier yesterday.

Bath are 31-year-old Henson’s fifth club in the space of two years as he seeks to revive a career that promised much in his youth.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that police were not investigating the incident. “We took the call and people said the problem was over and they didn’t require us, so we didn’t attend,” he added.
