Hawick sparked life into their survival bid with a bonus-point success against a Watsonians side struggling to recapture the form that saw them start the campaign impressively.

The hosts raced into an early lead through a Keith Young try and an Andrew Chalmers penalty. Hawick responded with a spell of pressure that ended when John Coutts touched down and Ali Weir converted.

Chalmers landed his second penalty then added the extras after Rory Steele had bagged try number two for the hosts.

However, the Borderers finished the half well and Callum Mackintosh dotted down for a try which Weir converted before landing a penalty that left the home side 18-17 in front at half time.

Chalmers booted another penalty but the visitors took the lead for the first time when Bruce McNeil took a quick tap penalty and dived over.

The momentum was now with Hawick who claimed the bonus point with a sparkling score from Darcy Graham. Weir converted but the hosts responded with a Chalmers penalty.

A converted try by Ross Gibson made the game safe although a penalty try for the hosts sparked a frantic finale.
