SCOTLAND full-back Stuart Hogg has been named RBS Six Nations Player of the Championship.

The 23-year-old Glasgow Warriors player won the public vote after being selected on a 12-strong list of nominees, which also included the Scotland centre Duncan Taylor.

Hogg secured 30 per cent of the vote with the backing of 20,970 fans and is the first Scot to win the award since it was formally introduced in 2004.

Hogg, who scored brilliant tries against both France and Ireland and performed at a consistently high level throughout the championship, said: “I’m honoured to receive the RBS Player of the Championship Trophy and join the list of the esteemed players that have won in the past. I’m extremely grateful for all the supporters who voted for me.”

England No 8 Billy Vunipola was second with 27 per cent of the vote for his significant role in securing the team’s 13th Grand Slam. Third place was awarded to the tournament’s top-try scorer, George North of Wales, with 11 per cent.
